the problem

hackastra's clients aren't in one country — they're wherever the incident is: the US, Europe, the Gulf, Southeast Asia. Speed and discretion are the entire value proposition. Cross-border payment collection kept undermining both:

  • International wires were frequently declined or held — sometimes by the client's bank, sometimes by the founder's own — requiring manual phone verification on both ends before a legitimate payment could clear.
  • More than once the actual fix was two simultaneous phone calls: founder with his bank, client with theirs, both convincing two institutions that a legitimate transaction was legitimate.
  • Card processors weren't a fit either: cross-border card friction, delay and cost don't work for a fixed-fee, pay-on-completion service.

For a business with a median first response under five minutes, spending two days untangling a wire transfer was its own kind of absurd.

the interim fix — and its limits

Switching to crypto solved the banking-rail problem immediately: no correspondent bank in the middle, no business-hours dependency across time zones. But it introduced a manual coordination tax on every single invoice:

  • A back-and-forth per payment to confirm which coin the client was using
  • Wallet addresses and QR codes generated and sent per-transaction over chat or email
  • Confirming arrival meant manually checking a block explorer and following up

The banking problem was solved. A new operational bottleneck replaced it.
